This word comes from the Arabic meaning Rassala (Se Laver) Rhassoul volcanic clay is harvested in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco. It is used as a shampoo or very mild soap due to its exceptional ability to bind fat and convey water. It's an inevitable part of the rituals of the hammam. Unlike shampoos and soaps, Rhassoul contains no surfactant and cleans in a physical process by absorbing impurities and fat. It thus complies with the fat from the skin and hair and does not irritate the sebaceous glands.
